Turn-based strategy Rise of Tyrants is King's other soft-launched midcore title

Turns out Hero isn't the only midcore title King has in soft launch.

Rise of Tyrants is developed by Z2, the studio behind Battle Nations, which was acquired by King in February 2015.

The game itself has been in soft launch since September 2014, and is available in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, and United Kingdom.

New territory

It's a turn-based strategy game with base-building elements – a complete departure from King's staple casual games, and its other midcore title, action-RPG Hero.

It has some neat twists though including a separate grid-based battle arena, a way to target specific parts of bases, a Saga-like single player mission campaign and gacha chest reward.

Oh, and it also looks great.

Work on the game appears to be slow – it's received a total of 8 updates across 21 months of soft launch, with several months between updates.

It's interesting that the game has been soft-launched in the UK, a market that appears to be growing in popularity for soft-launching.
