With mobile studios dominating the list of nominees for UK trade association TIGA's first ever awards, we decided to put the spotlight on some of the developers in the running.First Touch Games is up for two awards in all, with Score! Classic Goals in the running for best casual game, and most original release.
We caught up with studio director Charles Chapman to find out how the developer is taking the nominations.
Pocket Gamer: How do you feel about being named as a finalist at the first TIGA Awards?
Charles Champman: It's great obviously, and fantastic recognition for doing something a bit different which is what we tried with Score!.
What would receiving a TIGA Award mean for your studio?
Being an industry award it wouldn't be something that would suddenly rocket our games back up the charts again, but any award is great for increasing our profile, which is more important than ever for independent developers.
Aside from that it would be great for the team, and really cap a great first year as First Touch Games.
Are you a TIGA member?
Yes we are members. I feel it's good to be part of trade association, and when we started First Touch Games, TIGA was the obvious choice.
TIGA puts on some excellent events, and the cost of membership, in the scheme of things, isn't much.
What do you think are your chances of winning?
Oh, I don't know - football games aren't your typical awards winners are they.
It's the more quirky stuff that wins things, isn't it? But I'd say we're definitely in with a shout.
Thanks to Charles for his time.
