T-Mobile USA is taking the wrappers off its new web2go portal today, including the applications storefront it first talked about back in September.
According to MocoNews, the new portal replaces T-Zones, and will work with the operator's current handset line-up (apart, of course, from the G1 Android handset, and the Sidekick).
The app store element will display applications sorted by user ratings, which is a big deal for developers and publishers. Well, for the ones making good games, anyway.
"It separates the stars from the not so stars," says Ian McKerlich, director of mobile web and content services at T-Mobile USA. Watch some of those big movie branded games sink like stones
The portal also uses Yahoo's mobile search platform, which includes T-Mobile's content catalogue among its sources something that could give a boost to mobile game sales.
It'll be interesting to see if web2go spreads to other T-Mobile carriers around the world, and whether the new approach is positive for games publishers.
