Google has updated its mobile web search to include app results, allowing users to search for titles on their mobile browser and be taken straight to the download location in the appropriate app store.
Developed for both Android and iPhone, Google claims searching for 'download Shazam' (see below) or 'Bank of America app' on either platform's browser will result in a link to the app appearing at the very top.
Basic details such as pricing, rating and publisher also make the page.
Getting its search onIt's a set-up Google believes will help consumers make their purchasing decisions in what are two increasingly crowded marketplaces.
"As mobile apps continue to proliferate in stores like Android Market and the iPhone App Store, finding relevant information on the web about these apps is becoming more important to help you decide which apps to download," the firm says on its blog.
"In addition to helping you find the mobile app information you're looking for, Google Search for mobile now also makes it easier for you to get the actual apps themselves while you're searching."
Rolling out the apps
Industry talk suggests Google's next move will be to include apps in Google's main web search, with the company planning an online marketplace for desktop based apps.
However, while Google claims the mobile set-up went live today, a quick search on iPhone earlier proved fruitless, suggesting its roll-out isn't quite complete.
