Top Gear mobile developer Motorious drives up extra $894,000 in funding

Helsinki-based mobile games start-up Motorious Entertainment has secured further €800,000 ($894,000) of investment.

The funding round was led by led by Finnvera Venture Capital and Nordea’s Startup and Growth Services.

Along with previous investment, it brings total investment in the studio to around €1.3 million ($1.45 million).

Revved up

The studio’s debut game Top Gear Road Trip is set to launch on iOS and Google Play this summer in partnership with BBC Worldwide.

The title blends together casual match-3 mechanics with mid core gameplay and tasks players with travelling through a map from England to France, through the Alps and more.

“After a number of years as Editor-in-Chief of Finnish Top Gear, it has been an exciting ride to extract the DNA of driving’s number one television franchise, and build it into a mobile game”, said Motorious CEO Jari Pauna.

“We are excited to have Finnvera Venture Capital, Nordea’s Startup and Growth Services in the driving seat, to help grow our team and look forward to launching Top Gear Road Trip, in partnership with BBC Worldwide this summer.”

When the studio nabbed the Top Gear license in 2015, the deal was set to be for three licensed games.
