Helsinki-based developer Polka Dot Studio has raised $650,000 to fund the creation of fashion and lifestyle games for women.
The ambitious start-up was founded last year by a team of former Remedy, Digital Chocolate and Rovio employees.
Polka Dot wants to become the category leader in the genres and be the go-to brand for “fashion conscious mobile gamers”.
To that end, its first game will be a blend of social media and dress-up in which players can style their avatar, share stylings and collect likes and followers. It’s set to be launched in Q4 2018.
Mighty funding
The $650,000 investment round, which follows on from a pre-seed funding round in 2017, was led by former Rovio ‘Mighty Eagle’ Peter Vesterbacka, who also joins the start-up as an advisor.
Other investors included Tekes, Nutshell Invest OU, Siena Holding OU, Mavaconsult, Partner Up Finland, Nicolas Brabeck-Letmathe, Kari Vatanen and other investors from the previous round.
“Getting Peter behind us is not only a huge confidence boost, but also a perfect fit to help guide us on our vision to build category leading mobile games” said Polka Dot Studio CEO Olesja Marjalaakso.
